Who are we?

Oak Medical Education Foundation (OMEF) is a non-profit organization founded by volunteers who are committed to achieving and promoting an improved medical environment and empowering youth leaders within our local community.

OMEF, which held its grand opening on June 18th, 2021,  supports our community by raising funds through events such as our annual 5KM Charity Run/Walk and our Learning Buddies Program. Our mission is to support our local youth leaders with unique educational resources, volunteer experience and scholarship opportunities.

Shawn Fang
MBA, CPA, CMA

President & CEO

Shawn Fang has more than 20 years of sales, marketing and financial analysis experience. Shawn obtained an MBA degree from Wilfred Laurier University of Waterloo in 2007 and a Canadian Public Accountant Certificate in 2009 and has 10+ years experience as a financial professional at large corporations such as Blackberry and IPG Group before becoming a full-time real estate agent.

 

Shawn also actively participates in the construction of western communities and builds bridges between the Chinese community and the three-level government. In recognition of his outstanding community service and volunteerism in Oakville, the Rotary Club of Oakville West honored him as a Paul Harris Fellow. He recently won the Oakville North-Burlington Spirit Award from Local MPP office and got recognition from Mayor’s office of Oakville for exceptional service to local community during the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020.

Melody Xu
MBA, P.Eng.

Vice President
Strategy & External Relations

Melody is a creative leader with a proven ability to develop and execute strategies to support community development and is an achiever with a strong desire for learning and growing.

 

She has 15+ years of advisory, corporate strategy, and business development experience across four industries in 12 countries. Melody is an Ontario registered Professional Engineer and received an MBA degree from the University of Oxford. Melody participates in many volunteer jobs include Government Liaison Program Representatives PEO (Professional Engineers Ontario).

Jen, Zhou
CPA, CGA

Vice President
Finance & Operations

Jen graduated from the University of British Columbia and Okanagan College with an Honours degree in Business Administration and obtained CPA and CGA designations.

 

Jen has experience in both public and industrial accounting areas for over 10 years, and as a senior partner at an accounting firm, she places high value on social responsibilities. She is a mentor for CPA Practical Experience to guide future CPAs to complete their designation, and has organized fundraising events for different organizations for over ten years. She has initiated not-for-profit organizations for women and youth helping them with resumes, interviews, and career advice.

Carol Chen
CPA, CMA

Chief Operation Officer

Carol Chen has worked in the real estate, construction, and engineering design industries for more than 20 years and obtained her CPA Certificate in 2012.  During her tenure at a world-renowned construction engineering company, she was responsible for infrastructure projects funded by provincial and municipal governments.

 

Carol not only achieved stellar results in her profession but also actively participated in local community charity activities, and she is the co-founder of the Ontario Multicultural Music Association. In recognition of her outstanding community service and volunteerism in Oakville, the Rotary Club of Oakville West honoured her as a Paul Harris Fellow. She also won Oakville North-Burlington Spirit Award from the Local MPP office and got recognition from the Mayor’s office of Oakville for exceptional service to the local community during the 2020 pandemic.

Shui Luo

Legal Advisor

Shui Luo is a widely experienced business and international transactions lawyer, licensed in both Ontario and China. He has combined experience of almost 20 years practicing in Canada and Greater China, focusing on corporate and commercial business. Prior to founding his own law firm in Oakville in 2020, he has worked with a large Bay Street national firm for several years after obtaining his law degree at the University of Toronto.

 

Shui Luo frequently represents early-stage start-ups and emerging growth companies on corporate and financing matters and is a co-founder and Director of Asia American Innovation Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting innovation business among the Asian community. He is also a member and advisor of Waterloo Chinese Business Association and a member of Mississauga Chinese Business Association.

Joyce Dong

Community Engagement

& Volunteer

Joyce Dong has more than 10 years of work experience in higher education institutions. She obtained a MSc degree in Health Services Research from University of Toronto and Bachelor of Medicine degree in Preventive Medicine and BSc degree in Economics from Peking University, China.

 

Having worked in several hospitals (SickKids, Toronto WesternHospital and Shijitan Hospital in Beijing) and CDC Beijing, Joyce has obtained a deep understanding of what it takes to deliver an exceptional healthcare experience and in how to better support health care system and medical students.

Larry Gong
CFA, CFP, PFP

Director, Fund Raising

Larry brings 10 years of experience in the financial industry, with the last 5 years working as Financial Planner for a Canadian major bank. He actively participates in a variety of community volunteering events for healthcare providers, including the Health Care Foundation of NL, Janeway Children's Hospital, and McMaster Children's Hospital. He is a committee member for Oakville Hospital Foundation.

 

Larry graduated from Cape Breton University with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration (Honours). He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and Personal Financial Planner (PFP) designation, and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Toronto CFA Society.

An avid traveller and sports enthusiast, Larry enjoys basketball and supports his Toronto Raptors. He lives in Oakville with his wife Frieda and their two cats.

Ariel Hu
M.Ed CSM CCMP RPhT

Director, Education & Youth Program

Ariel Hu brings over a decade of expertise in Learning and Development, Leadership, and Capability Building. Ariel worked in different sectors of Healthcare industry such as hospitals, Community Pharmacies, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, and Biotech Companies. 


Ariel graduated from the Nipissing University with a Master of Education (M.Ed). She also practices as a certified coach (ACC) by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Change Management Practitioner (CCMP), and Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) in Ontario, Canada.


Ariel is passionate about driving impactful initiatives and committed to leveraging her knowledge to empower youth and foster community growth. Beyond professional endeavors, Ariel organizes education workshops focused on Talent Development, Youth Leadership Development, Emotional Resilience, and Stress Management.
